| I'm taking a Mechanical Engineering CAD class this quarter at UCSB. We don’t really have a final exam per say, but we have a final project that we can work on throughout the quarter and its due during the last class. Basically, we're supposed to invent something (an assembly of parts)... create a mock item... do all the drafting for it, including exploded views, etc, and then explain who it would be for, the design process, how it would work, etc. Our professor showed us some of the final projects from last year the other day. One was independent suspension for a skateboard... fairly simple - but included the spring, all the necessary pieces, etc. Another one was a recessed power outlet for a wall.... for safety reasons I guess. I, naturally, want to do something automotive related and more specifically, Z related. It doesn't need to be too complicated, but should have multiple pieces to it (i.e. it can't just be one mass [new spoiler, etc]). Do you have any thoughts as to what might be a small "assembly" that our cars would benefit from? It could be a piece that is obviously not practical to make, or not cost effective, but would work as simply a design. For another example, obviously a whole new engine wouldn't work, but possibly a specific part of the engine...etc
